In Bandarban Hill District, an annual grant and financial assistance program is organized among the private voluntary organizations registered under the initiative of the Department of Social Services to improve the living standards of the poor, helpless and destitute. Mr. Bir Bahadur Ushaising MP, Hon'ble Minister for the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest at the function held at the auditorium of the Cultural Institute of Local Minorities on September 2, 2020. The function was presided over by Mr. Kya Shai Hla, President of District Social Welfare Council and Hon'ble Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council.
Also present as special guests on the occasion were Regional Council Member Mr. Kajal Kanti Das, Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Md. Reza Sarwar, Mr. Monirul Islam Manu Journalist, Representative Bangladesh Television and President District Bandarban Press Club, Mr. Kanchanjoy Tanchangya, Member Bandarban Hill District Council and Convener Convening Committee on Social Services.
At the event, 9 private voluntary organizations were given checks of Tk.30,000 /- (thirty thousand) and Tk. 2,600,000 (two lakh seventy thousand). A check of Tk.50,000/- (fifty thousand) is given to a cancer patient and a merit scholarship of Tk.30,000/- (thirty thousand) is given to a meritorious resident of Sarkari Shissu Paribar, Bandarban.
Mr. Bir Bahadur Ushaising MP, Hon'ble Minister for the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh also inaugurated 515 poor, helpless and destitute families with disabilities in Bandarban district by distributing Tk.5000/-(Tk.five thousand only per family) as grants to 70 families initially.
