With the theme of 'Hold white cloth, build smart Bangladesh yourself', World White Cloth Safety Day was celebrated in Bandarban district. Mr. Kya. Swe Hla Hon'ble Chairman Bandarban Hill District Council was present as the chief guest in the function organized at Bandarban Hill District Council conference room. Speakers in the meeting said that there are about a thousand visually impaired people in the district. Various government and private organizations are working to advance the disabled. Society's attitude towards them needs to change. As the government wants to keep them involved and advance development activities, the Disability Protection Act, the Disability Protection Trust has been created for them. The government is distributing free aids through the Handicapped Development Foundation. They have been able to show evidence in every sector of sports, education, science, innovation that people with disabilities are able to sign their talents when given appropriate opportunities.
The chief guest said in his speech that NGOs are also working with the government along with the disabled. Today's event is to encourage them to be partners in development activities. He congratulated the residents of Integrated Visually Impaired Education Program of Bandarban District for being able to represent Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup. He said that in various fields including sports, all talented people of the district, including the disabled, will be honored by the district council.
In the morning, before the discussion meeting, a rally was held in the presence of Zilla Parishad Chairman along with representatives of visually impaired organizations, representatives of local voluntary organizations and officers and employees of the Department of Social Services, heads of various government departments. Chief Executive Officer Mr. Muhammad Masum Billah, Deputy Civil Surgeon Mr. M.M. Nayan Salauddin, ASP Mr. Md. Amjad Hossain, Deputy Director Family Planning Mr. Deepak Kumar Saha, Zilla Parishad Member Mr. Singyoung Mro Mr. Milton Muhuri, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office presided over the program conducted by Upazila Social Service Officer Sadar.
